Derbyshire Recovery Partnership provides a specialist needle and syringe programme (sometimes referred to as Needle Exchange) to support injecting drug users and to promote the reducing of risks associated with injecting for individuals.
Alongside the provision of sterile injecting equipment our specialist needle and syringe services offer a range of information and advice about injecting practice for illicit drugs (including injecting performance enhancing drugs) aimed to reduce risk of infection.
The needle and syringe programme is accessible to anyone who wishes to access health advice, information, or safe injecting equipment (inc. safe storage boxes) and can be accessed confidentially without an individual being open to the drug or alcohol treatment service.
One-to-one support and advice is provided which may include information around injecting techniques, overdose risks, testing for blood borne infections including Hepatitis B, C and HIV infections, Hepatitis A & B immunisations and referral to other services. When you are ready we can also support your entry into the main treatment services.
Sharps boxes are provided with all needle and syringe programme transactions to support safer injecting practice and reduce risk to others.
Training and provision of Naloxone (emergency anti-overdose medication) is also available via the Specialist Needle and Syringe Programme.
